Granny square


Make yourself a merry little Christmas. 24 days of gifts and makes to create a frugal home made Christmas.

Day sixteen: 

A favourite granny square dishcloth or face cloth.



Round 1: Chain 4. Join with a slip stitch in first chain to make ring. Chain 3. Make 3 dc in ring.

Ch2. Make (3dc, ch2) twice in ring, catching loose thread end. 2 dc in ring. Make sl stitch in the 3 rd chain of the chain 5 at beginning of round.
Slip stitch in the next chain also and chain 5 to begin new round.
3 dc in space at bottom of chain 5.
*Ch 1. Skip the next 3 dc, (3 dc, ch2, 3 dc) in the next corner space.
Repeat from * twice more.

Ch1. (skip the next 3dc. Place 2dc in the space at the bottom of chain 5 from beginning of round. Slip stitch in the 3rd chain of the ch 5.

Slip stitch in the next chain and then chain 5.
Round 2: 3 dc at bottom of chain 5. Ch1. Skip next 3 dc. 3 dc in the next space.

Ch1. Skip the next 3dc, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in the corner space.
*(Ch1, 3dc, ch1) in each corner space. To close the last corner, 2dc in the space at the bottom of chain 5 from beginning of the round. Slip stitch in 3rd chain of the ch5, and in the next chain. Chain 5 to start a new round.

Finish by closing the last corner with 2dc in the space at the bottom of chain 5. slip stitch in the 3rd chain of chain 5. Cut thread, pull through. Weave in end.


7 rounds including the initial round in ring makes a good size, but you can go larger.
